Never Too Many

I am finding that out in a hurry!  One can never have too many pin cushions.  Am I right?

These kind are so easy to make too....

I stained up some ticking and couldn't make up my mind what I was going to stuff it with so I didn't.  Make up my mind, that is.  I stuffed it with sawdust, fiberfill, scraps of material and...oh well I don't know what else.  It could be anything really.  :o)  I like my pin cushions to have some weight to them so I try to fill them with something other than plain old fiberfill.

So that's what I did with my latest flea market finds.

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S.  I almost forgot.  I like to reply to as many comments as I am able to but sometimes I am so disappointed when I see a "no-reply" blogger has left a comment for me and I cannot reply, especially if you ask me a question.  I know I could hunt up your email address through your blog (if you have one) but I just don't have the time to do that.  Please consider changing that so I (and others) can thank you for your visit to our blogs.     ♥ ♥ ♥

A Few Things

Happy Saturday friends!  I hope your weekend has started out just the way you hoped it would.  If not, there's still one day left to make it right!  I know I have a lot of work to do then.

  • I woke up to the realization that I can no longer exercise like I want to.  My body just won't let me.
  • I broke eggs all over the inside of the refrigerator.
  • I burned a batch of biscuits
  • I got shampoo in my eyes
  • I stitched for over an hour only to rip it all out
Well enough of that.  Tomorrow is a new day and I have more eggs in the frig and biscuit fixins in the cupboard!

Here are a few things I wanted to share with you today ~ ~ ~

While working in Georgia I was able to score all these numbered brass tags before they brought the building down.

I washed them up and put them out on an old bathmat to dry.  I've since spotted them on Etsy and Ebay.  I'm glad I got these before they went down in a pile of rubble.
My latest "I must have it" Ebay find arrived in the mail yesterday.

Each one has old machine needles in them.

I found two more old cups to make in to pin cushions....

I really like the detail in the handles...

That's it for today.  Short and sweet I suppose.

Thanks for visiting with me and thank you BIG BUNCHES for taking time to comment.  I love to read them!
Sometimes I am able to reply and sometimes not but please know that I appreciate each and every thought and kind word.  ♥

IHSW Report

I'm a day late and always a dollar short.  I wanted to post yesterday but you know how it is.
I spent a good portion of my weekend planted in my chair stitching away.

Believe it or not I did not stitch a bit on my sampler.  Instead I took Peaceful Ways by La D Da out of my WIP box and went to work on it.

I'll first show you my progress on the Saxon Sampler.

Well there I was last night feeling all giddy that I finally had the border done when Masterchief pointed out that I DID NOT get it all done after all!  Can you see where I need to stitch a few more?  It will only take a minute to stitch up.  All that's left then is the upper case alphabet and then our name in the space at the bottom. I can't wait to see it in a frame!

Here is the La D Da piece I have been working on all weekend.....

It's all done now except for my initials and year at the bottom.  Another one to frame up!

*****  EDIT >  I had this post up for a few minutes when Masterchief pointed out that I had not included a picture he took of me while in my chair over the IHSW.  Aww shucks, I almost got away with it.  Well anyway...here it is.......

There.  Now he's happy.

Remember that junk shop I told you about in my previous post?

If anyone collects Fiesta ware this is the place to be!

I made Masterchief some pineapple cookies the other day too....

This was the first time I made them and OH MY...they are really good!  This recipe has been declared a "keeper" by the authority cookie-eater of the house.  Today is his birthday so I have made his requested apple pie.

That's the story today folks.  The sun is shining here in southern Kentucky but the cold wind is brutal.  I'll be glad when I don't have to bundle up to go out the door again.

Take care my friends and have a wonderful week!

New Treasures

Happy Saturday morning to all my blogging friends!
~And welcome to my new followers.  I can't believe I have almost 300 followers now!  I have Vicki to thank for that.  She started the Grow Your Own Blog party and helped a bunch of us make new friends. I am so happy to have you all here.

I found some treasures on Thursday I wanted to share with you.
Although I've been to Monticello a few times I have never stopped at a quilt shop there.  I didn't even know it was there.  We went to Monticello to renew the registration on Masterchief's truck.  This quilt shop also had lots of shelving along the walls that she used as a peddlers mall of sorts.  Here are a few things I picked up while there...

cast iron muffin pan

Whitman's Sampler Tin
Book of Stitches

As we left this little shop the little old woman told us of a junk/antique shop that we might be interested in just up the road.  I don't know about you but I love to go through those places where it looks so junky that the thrill of finding a treasure combined with the fear of going in there alone  makes for an adrenalin pumping search!  Luckily I had Masterchief with me so off I went!   I wish I would have had my camera!
Here is what I picked up there............

A bag full of bobbins (not the box)

I love the old ruler I found there too. It was put out by Coca-Cola years ago. A child wrote his name on it in 1956.

Three thimbles.
The thimble in the front must be for decoration only because it is really tiny.

Old child's cup which I quickly made in to a pincushion

I got the bobbins, thimbles, ruler and the cup all for $15.
I thought that was a good deal considering I've seen prices on those bobbins go sky high!
I was shocked when he said the biggest ones were $1.50 and they go down in price from there.
He gave me a bag to fill and I went off to fill it before he changed his mind.

I always plan to start the IHSW on Friday but so far this year it hasn't turned out that way.
So...I have today and tomorrow to put a major dent in my sampler.
I'm thinking I might get something out of my WIP box to work on too.

I desperately want to get that sampler done but I need to work on something else to break it up a bit.

I better get started.  My stitching chair is calling out to me already this morning.
Progress pictures on Monday!

Have a great weekend everyone

♥♥Happy Valentine's Day♥♥

A very Happy Valentine's Day to all my friends in blogland.
I have gained so many new friends through blogging and I want you all to know how much I appreciate your kind words and comments!  Now if I can just get a few of you to move a bit closer to me so we could meet and stitch (and talk and eat).  :o)

I'm not usually a seasonal stitcher but what is easier than stitching a heart, right?

I know I got the chart for the pinkeep in the front from one of you as a freebie but I can't for the life of me remember where.  Please help me out if you can!
The one on the left I just sort of made up.  I stuffed the Valentine one with walnut shells and the other one on the side is stuffed with bits of wool scraps.  I don't throw them away.  They are wonderful for stuffing!

I've been using a bit of the wool Shirlee was so kind to send me lately.  I made the pincushion on the right with some of it.  The two framed pieces in the back are from previous years. The pillow on the right was a freebie from Heartstring Samplery.  You can find it HERE.  The one on the right is from 2005.  I stitched it just in time for when Masterchief and I were married.  I've been having great fun painting those little heart boxes.  I sent a few of them out as RAK's recently.  I hope you all like them!  I wish I could have sent you all a little something hand stitched by me but at the rate I stitch you wouldn't receive it till Christmas!  I also wish I could have sent one to so many more.  I mailed them until I ran out.

Above is a picture of my ever growing collection of pinkeeps, pillows and cushions.  I think I need to find a bigger bowl or plate!

I know I promised a picture of my sampler progress but it happened again.....I forgot to take a picture of it while I was running around with the camera.  It will happen soon!  This weekend is IHSW (International Hermit & Stitch Weekend).  I plan to make a ton of progress on it so the next picture you see should show it.

That's it for today folks.
Thank you so much for stopping by and thank you for your sweet comments!

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!
~hugs ♥♥♥♥

LOOK QUICK! It won't be like this for long.

I did a little cleaning up recently.  We live in a three bedroom home.  Bedroom #1 of course belongs to the Masterchief and me.  Bedroom #2 is the office/stash storage room.  Bedroom #3 is the guest bedroom/ironing room/more stash storing/throw-everything-I-don't-know-where-to-put-it room.

We rarely have overnight guests but when we do we must have a place for them to sleep so taking the bed out of there and making it my sewing/craft room is out of the question right now.  So I work with what I have, and that's not all that bad.

Here's a few pictures I took so I can prove that it was indeed once clean!

It sure doesn't take long for it to look all cluttered again.  Maybe I should print these out and post them on the door for inspiration.  Ya think that would work?

ORT Report...I almost forgot!

Happy Sunday evening friends.  I had completely forgotten that this was ORT report day until I saw someone else had posted a picture of her ORT jar.  I almost let the day get away but here I am, reporting for duty!

It's amazing how those threads accumulate when I make an effort to save each little piece!  I have been working on a few other things than just my sampler so that really put a hefty contribution toward the jar.  I throw everything in there.  There are lots of DMC papers this time and also threads from the edges of my linen.  I will smash this down in to my bigger jar...or...should I start a new jar to only collect the threads from 2013?  This is my first time taking part in this fun so maybe you could help me out here.

The one thing I meant to take a picture of an forgot was my sampler progress.  Oh well, that will give me an excuse to post in the next day or two.  I have cleaned out my spare room again.  It won't look this way for very long so this time I took pictures.  I can now prove that it does look neat and tidy on occasion.  I will post the dreaded before and after pics of that too.

That's it from me today.  Short and sweet.

Thanks for stopping by.

~hugs ♥

The Girls...

Happy Saturday morning!
The weekend is here and I feel bad for those who are getting so much snow and wind.
Stay safe and warm my northeast friends!

Today I wanted to share a few pictures of my grandmother's dolls with you.
She was a collector and I couldn't begin to imagine how many she had total.

I got them out of the box to take these pictures but I had to put them away again (except for the last one) because I don't have any room to properly display them.
Maybe one day I'll be able to show them off but for now they are in safe keeping.

I have been working on my sampler but forgot to take a picture of it before I sat down to post.
I will share my progress with you early next week.

Thanks for visiting with me and the girls today.
May your weekend be filled with lots of stitchy progress and the frogs remain comfortably planted on their lily pads.

♥Valentine Winner♥

Good evening friends!
I want to thank everyone for entering my giveaway.  I usually like to reply to each comment if I can but there were so many of you this time I couldn't keep ahead of it!  I am always saddened to see those who are set to  "no-reply".  I would love to be able to reply to your comments but I just don't have time to look up each of your email addresses (if I can find them at all) and send a little thank you for visiting with me.   Maybe there's a good reason some of you are set to that.  I really don't know anything about it but I want you all to know I read each and every comment and enjoy them all!

So here's the draw.......

Congratulations Lisa V!  If you would please email me with your mailing address I will get your Valentine winnings out to you right away.

Winnings Reveal...

Oh my goodness!  I didn't realize when I posted last (just a few days ago) that February was so near.  It seems we were just enjoying the Christmas season and here we are, on our way through 2013 already!

So that means I better get crackin' on this Valentine giveaway.  It has been my thing in the past to not reveal what your winnings will be right away.  I'll be honest with you...it's usually because I don't know yet myself!   But today I want to show you what you'll win if your name is drawn for this giveaway.

You will receive this small heart box that I painted, a few threads chosen out of my stash, a little lavender filled scissor fob I made (scissors included) and a strawberry pinkeep which is filled with crushed walnut shells.  With some help from some of my dearest bloggy friends (hugs to Mouse), and some encouragement as well (hugs to Sweet Sue), my finishing skills are slowly improving so I felt I could finally offer something that I made that was worthy of giving, and receiving.

Being that this is Valentine's Day themed, I should close this giveaway soon so that I'm sure it will arrive to the winner in plenty of time to enjoy before the 14th.

Soooo......the winner will be drawn on Sunday evening, Feb. 3rd, so that I can send it out right away Monday morning.

Good luck to everyone.  Don't forget, you have to enter this drawing using the comment section of the last post...so CLICK HERE to get there.

May your team win.....
