Coming soon...

Hi friends!  I'm back from the Tree Of Life Samplings retreat and really want to blog a bit about it but ALL the pictures are on the laptop that we took with us.

Today's plate is full already but I hope to soon get them and share the fun with you.  I also need to take a few pics of my new stash.

Until I can find a moment,
be well and stitch on...................

I've Been Tagged!

Today is turning out to be a busy, busy day for me but I had to find time to answer these questions that Jayne composed for some of her blogging buddies to answer.

Here I go.....

1.  How do you feel about blended threads in Teresa Wentzler's projects?  Ummm...I don't think I've ever stitched a TW project.  Is this a bad thing? Why do I get the feeling I should be bracing myself for a proper flogging with a wet noodle?

2.  Do you launder your projects before framing?  Nope.  Never.

3.  How do you feel about the lack of color fast in all the flosses now?  Did you say 'lack of'??  WHATTTT???  You mean they're not colorfast?

4.  When you begin a project with a black and white chart how do you choose which symbol to begin with? I don't.  I start at the center...it doesn't matter what symbol it is.  Even this does not guarantee that my design will be centered.  I'm ditzy like that.

5.  Do you do your own framing?  YES...I do now thanks to Carmen.  *shout out to Carmen--"Holla"*

6.  Do you choose your own mats and moldings or let someone else tell you what you would like?  I choose what I want but appreciate the input of friends who are well experienced.

7.  Pins or lace?  Lace

8.  Do you have any wall space for a new project?  Yes.  I have one whole wall just begging to be covered with my creations!

9.  Have you ever gifted a finished piece right off your wall because someone liked it?  Are you kidding me???  NEVER!  I have a hard time parting with my finished pieces.  I'm selfish that way I guess.

10.  Would you stitch it again for yourself?  *points to preceding question*

11.  Do you have a group of friends whom share the love of stitching with you on a regular basis?  Nope.  I don't know anyone around these here parts that cross stitches.  For now, I only have my fellow bloggers. (I have actually met a few of you in person.)

There you have it.  Not very interesting, is it?

I'm sorry I don't have the time to tag or make up questions of my own today.
Masterchief is wasting away to nothing because it's past lunch time and we are out of bacon for his requested BLT.

Now we don't want him blowing away in the wind, do we?  I must run to town to get some smoked pork product..(blech)...I haven't eaten bacon in years.....YEARS I tell ya!

Thanks for stopping by!

Just a quick post to let you know the winner of my most recent giveaway.

I had my Masterchief do the honors.

He picked Cathy!  Cathy said she would like to have the heart wall hanging.  I was thrilled when Masterchief unfolded her name....she is an RN who is originally from KY but works in CA.   I hope I have that right Cathy.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I need to find out from Cathy if she wanted the cookie cutters as well.  If not, I will draw again.

I have tons to do today and not enough day left to get it done!  I'm getting a late start this morning.

I'll leave you with my latest addition to the flower bed out front.  I can't tell you why I felt I had to have them...I just knew I NEEDED them!

I call them my dorky flamingos but that sounds kinda mean.  So...any suggestions on what I should name them?  I don't have any pets so I feel like I really need to assign them each a name.  I'd love to hear what you all come up with!  There just might be a few stitchy things in it for ya!  *wink-wink*

Must get busy....
Have a great weekend everyone and thanks for stopping by!

Run For Your Life! ....and a giveaway (of sorts)

As I sit here at the kitchen table I hear the roar of a few lawn mowers outside.  Masterchief has been tapping his foot waiting patiently for the grass to get dry enough to tackle.  He's funny about mowing.  He looks at it and declares it must be mowed and I moan something about it not looking any different today than it did when he mowed last.  It always looks so nice when he's finished so I'm probably wrong about the mowing schedule.  Just probably....sometimes.

Speaking of mowing!  Across from our house is a narrow stretch of field that the owner (who lives in another state and only comes here to his vacation home a little bit in the summers) allows to grow up wild.  We know there are probably a lot of critters in there so we don't venture out in it.  Anyway...when it is left to grow up tall it gets in the way of our view of the lake.  We can't see much of it right now anyway because the dam is being worked on miles away so we like to catch even the slightest glimpse of it when we can.  Well the owner is here now and asked the farmer around the bend to mow it down.  We expected to see a snake or two but so far haven't.  *fingers, toes and eyes crossed*...oh please oh please oh please nooooooo!!!!

Right after snapping this picture a baby bunny came screaming up the driveway straight for us!  If I wouldn't have been screaming too I could have snapped a picture of the absolutely terrified look on his face.

He took a sharp right just in front of our feet and ran over to seek help from my flying pig............

The pig wasn't much help at all so the little bunny sought refuge under my hydrangea bush.  He was so scared from the big bad old mower I could almost feel HIS heart thumping my MY chest!  I hope there wasn't any critters hurt during the mow.

I made a yummy cake on Sunday......

This pistachio cake has two boxes of instant pistachio pudding in the cake (along with 5 eggs) and one box of pudding for the frosting (along with some heavy cream).  Masterchief kept two pieces of it and the rest went to the neighbor.

Gosh I wish you all lived close to me!  I would love to bake for you.

For the past couple weeks, Masterchief has been stalking the UPS truck waiting patiently for a 20 foot flag pole he ordered.  He has always wanted a flagpole in front of the house.

On Sunday night he dug the hole.......

The UPS driver called yesterday morning to tell us he was coming close to town so Masterchief could meet him there with his pick-up truck.  The driver was very grateful because it is too hard to turn the truck around out here where we live.

Last night he poured the concrete around the base and now he is chomping at the bit patiently waiting the suggested week to pass so he can put the pole in and fly his flag!  I will plant some sort of flowers around the base of it.  I can't wait!  Of course I am being just as patient about this as Masterchief is.

Lastly I want to offer a giveaway of sorts.  I say  ~of sorts~  because it's not like I went out and bought something just for this.  In fact, did I happen to mention a couple weeks ago that I cleaned out the garage?  I had a rubbermaid tote out there with some goodies in it that didn't make it inside for some reason and I thought maybe someone would like to have a couple things that were in there.

It's a cute wooden heart you can hang just about anywhere you'd like.  The stars on it are made of metal and tacked on.  It says, "Be it ever so humble there's no place like home."  I think I bought it while traveling through Maryland a few years back.

I also found these cookie cutters that could be used to make cookies or to decorate your kitchen for July 4th.

I put the ruler in the picture so you could get an idea of how big they are.

If you would like a chance to have these things for your very own please comment on this post.  If you want a chance to win just one of these items, tell me which one in your comment.  If your name is drawn and you have said you want just one of these, I will draw another name for the other item.

The drawing will be Friday night and I'll announce the winner over the weekend.  I would like it if you are a current follower but if you're not you can become one of the Kentucky Sampler clan for your chance to win!  One chance per person.....you don't have to announce it on your blog or do anything special for more than one chance.  I like keeping it simple.

Well I must get back to a bit of stitching.  Nothing picture worthy at this point but I hope to share soon!

Thank you all who leave comments for me.  I absolutely love reading them.  You should see me scramble for my phone when it goes blingy to announce that one of your comments has come in!  I used to have it set on the theme from The Beverly Hillbilly's but it would play the ENTIRE song every time and not everyone thought it was as funny as I did.

Happy Stitching!

I WON wooo-hoooo !!!!

It's Friday...YAY!   To be honest one day just melts right in to the other for me but I know many of you celebrate the start of the weekend because you work all week....so I celebrate with you!

I didn't have the laptop on very often while visiting my son and his family in PA.  I wanted to use every precious moment for hugs and kisses for my sweet baby boy (grandson) and making yummy things to eat.  One of the few times I had it on I had left a comment on P.J.'s blog (Porcupine Needle) and entered her one year blogaversary giveaway.  Then I found out 4 days before coming home that I WON...I WON!!

The pretty pink package arrived yesterday.  We had spent a long day driving to and from Lexington for a Dr.'s appointment.  I sat in the examination room for two hours before walking out to proclaim I had waiting long enough and I was going  home but Masterchief urged me to stay.  So stay I did.  The trying day was instantly made better when Masterchief checked the mail and handed me this................

I couldn't WAIT to open it!  Here is a pic of everything...........

Can you believe it?!  P.J. lives in Maine and we were just there to visit Maserchief's mother in May so these things mean even more to me.  Everything was wrapped in tissue paper held together with ribbon.  I would have showed you that but I remembered to take a picture AFTER I had torn in to it in all my excitement.  The package was inside the adorable tote bag that's there in the back with NEWPORT on it.  It's just the perfect size to pack a stitchy project in for on the road.

I do not own even ONE scissor fob so I can't wait to make this one!

The pattern P.J. included is called A Spot Of Friendship and couldn't be more fitting.  I have a soft spot for samplers (have I mentioned that, ever?)

Next to it here is the itsiest bitsiest little chart I think I've ever seen!  It's by The Prairie Schooler and it's just adorable!

Next up is a needle minder.  Now here's something else I've never seen........

I have leaned it up here against the bluebirds in my kitchen window.

Here it is close-up................

Isn't she awesome?  P.J.'s friend, Karri made it to include in her giveaway.  She is the Goddess Of The Dead.  Perfect for Halloween stitching.   It's so unusual...I LOVE it!!

P.J. obviously put alot of thought and kindness in to this giveaway and I am so very grateful to her.

I have one last thing to share with you before I close and go make myself a salad.

Laymie had an ultrasound on Thursday and found out they are having a GIRL!  She is entering her second trimester now and her pregnancy is going smoothly.  I am thrilled that Liam will have a little sister!  Her new due date is November 25th.  I work every Spring and Fall and I am praying that I will not be working when it comes time for her to have the baby.  When Liam was born I was knee deep in radioactive.....STUFF.  I want to be there SO BADLY this time.

Accomplishments today:
  • did my 5-mile exercise DVD
  • planted my parsley in a pot
  • laid out in the sun (just a bit too long)     *maybe*
  • painted the bench that needed it so badly on our front porch
  • washed and line-dried four loads of laundry (I love the smell of line-dried sheets!!)
  • made whoopie pies (Masterchief kept two and we gave the rest to our neighbors

Thank you all so much for your input about the word verification.  I haven't really decided what to do about it yet.  It has however made me appreciate all of you even MORE who really don't care for the WV but still do it to leave a comment on my blog!  BIG HUGS and a heartfelt thank you!

Have a wonderful weekend.  The weather is to be really nice here in southern Kentucky.

This One's For YOU, Carol!

When I saw CAROL'S comment about her son going to college at Bucknell in PA I knew I had to share with her one of the newest additions to my wardrobe.......

I like to collect T-shirts and sweatshirts from colleges...doesn't matter which ones, but I will admit I am partial to colleges in PA and KY because I have lived in both.
So Carol, congratulations to your son for graduating from Bucknell.  He made a good choice!

I was busy today but I don't feel like I accomplished much!  Well, not what I wanted to anyway.  Masterchief and I went in to town and bought 10 bags of pine bark mulch, 4 bags of garden soil, and 10 bags of concrete.  All that was from Lowe's.  Then we went to my favorite store, Tractor Supply where we picked up a lawn tractor lift, a Tractor Supply hat and a pair of jeans for me.  TS is the only place I can find jeans that don't have S-T-R-E-T-C-H built in to them.  It may help some ladies but that stuff just clings to my...well...places it shouldn't be clinging to!

Now it's 9pm and we just finished having dinner.  Whew!!  What a day!

I know some of you might be curious as to what I came to the surface with after diving in to my stash baskets.  Well I received something in the mail today that I really need to stitch quickly.  I don't want to tell you yet what it is because I'm afraid I'll jinx the end result.  Sorry... I'll let you know very soon!!

Oh ok....here's just a little peek................

Now I MUST get busy!

Oh before I go I meant to ask you all......when you leave a comment here do you get that word verification thingy that everyone is not liking?   I have to say that personally I have no problems with it.  I have never had a comment kick back because I did it wrong, but that's just me.  If it is on my blog, and is causing a problem for my stitchy friends I will remove it.  I don't want that to be the reason why someone isn't leaving comments when they'd like to.  Just let me know, mkay?

Ok now I really am going...

Thank you all so much for your kind comments about the Guardian finish.  I can't wait to frame it!

I can barely keep my eyes open but I couldn't go to bed before sharing my latest finish with you!

A Child's Guardian
La D Da

On this last picture you can see that I have stitched my birth year in it.  I guess after I am gone someone will have to put the year of my death there!  You may also have noticed that I put just a smidge of color in this piece by making the center of the three designs a muted pink color.  It's DMC 223.  I laid two colors out and that was the one that Masterchief liked so that was the one I used, of course!

I really enjoy stitching designs by La D Da.  I like her style.
After I finished I dabbed it all over with a tea bag and also used some of that stuff called Distress It.  I bought it a couple years ago at a stitch shop.  I've used it a few times and I like it.

I need to get to bed before I start to make no sense.  Masterchief usually proof reads my posts before I hit PUBLISH but he went to bed an hour and a half ago.  If there are any typos I know you will understand.  :^)

Goodnight my friends.  Thank you for sharing in this finish with me.
In the morning.....STASH DIVING!!

Monday, Monday....

I have spent the last 30 minutes typing out a blog post that was getting very windy so I deleted it all and I'll let pictures do most of the talking....

I try to exercise about 6 times a week and when the weather is so nice as it has been I like to go outside to do it.  I walk/jog (more of the first than the latter) for about an hour and if any of you have been following my blog for some time you will remember that dogs seem to be drawn to me while walking.

I have learned to carry little milk bones in my pocket for them in case I run across one that sees me as a dancing T-bone steak or something.  These two are new.

And then there were three......

We picked up Max.  He was especially smelly on this day.

I also carry two apples that I have cut in quarters for my other four legged friends..........

If I forget they are sure to let me know as I walk by empty handed.

As I turned the corner somehow I picked up a few more hounds............

Before I walked the next few yards I had seven dogs all around me.  A couple of them weren't being friendly to one another and I thought for a moment I might get my leg chewed off.  I made it to the next bend in the road though and these two stayed with me all the way home..............

We planned on taking them back to where they met me on my walk but after my shower they were gone.

While in Pennsylvania I went thrift store shopping with Laymie, my daughter in law.  I found another stash basket.  Oh YES!!  I'm sure I can fill it in no time at all.

Every Wednesday there is a farmer's market in Lewisburg, PA that I remember going to when I was a little girl.  I took Josh there as he was growing up and now he and Laymie go there with Liam.  It hasn't changed much through the years.  It's mostly fruits, veggies, fresh meats, bakery items etc... There are a few stands with yard sale sort of things too.  My eye caught sight of this toy and I would have paid a small fortune for it.  Fortunately it was only $2.
I had this exact toy when I was just a little one.  Well maybe not THIS one but one exactly like it!  I have very few memories of my childhood (none that I enjoy recalling anyway) so when I come across something that jogs a good feeling or memory I get all excited over it.

Found this bag at a health food shoppe.  It's made mostly of recycled materials......

Do you have to be over 40 to remember Dick and Jane?  I know someone who would really like to have this bag!  (hey Bert)  :^)

This post is really getting windy and not one stitchy picture!  I hope to finish Guardian very soon.

I can't help myself....I MUST include a picture of my little man here.  I miss him so much.

OK so I couldn't stop at just one.  Such a beautiful young family.

Thanks for hanging in there....this was a long post, huh?

Have a wonderful week everyone!
