A Finish & CAKE!!

How are you on this fine Sunday afternoon friend?  It was actually warm enough to wash the car today!  There was thunder to be heard in the distance but we got it done in time to put it back in the garage before it rained.  Masterchief does the outside and I usually do the inside.  I DO NOT do windows.  I mean...I will do them but they never turn out streak free.  It's just best that I don't, ya know?

I finally felt brave enough to finish my Rose Garden by BBD.  I sewed, ripped out and sewed again but I got it right, I think.  I don't know why I am so thick between the ears when it comes to these things but I truly am.  It's embarrassing!  I was this (<-->) close to sending it to Faye at Carolina Stitcher to finish for me but I really wanted to try it myself.  I wanted to have the satisfaction of knowing that I DID IT!  Well...I did it and the next one is being sent to you Faye.  I can't take that again!

I have it hanging on my lamp I sit under for stitching right now.  I didn't make the hole big enough for turning so I REALLY scrunched it up while turning it right side out.  I tried to get all the wrinkles out but I think there might still be a couple on there.  I stuffed it only lightly because it wanted it to hang nicely.  It's not perfect but I'm OK with it.

I made a coffee cake for Masterchief the other morning and it was just OK.  He said it "needed" something.  He suggested chopped apples or some kind of fruit.  So........I made it again yesterday and added two mashed overripe bananas and one chopped apple to the batter.
I had enough little bites of it to make a serving so I hit the elliptical extra hard this morning.  I'm so glad tomorrow is my day off from that thing.  I usually do three days on and one off.  By the third day my back is telling me to take a day off!

If you are interested in the recipe for this yummy coffee cake I can email it to you, just let me know.

That's it for today.  Thanks for spending a moment with me.  I always enjoy your visits.

There are alot of giveaways coming up.  Check out my sidebar!

Just when we were wondering if the darn thing worked at all.........

It worked...and worked....and WORKED............ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!

If it wasn't blaring because of a tornado warning it was screaming because of a strong thunderstorm watch.  I suppose I should say here that I really am thankful to have it.  It has alerted us in the past to let us know when we should be in our "safe spot".  It's just hard to be so thankful when it's going off every few minutes in the middle of a deep sleep!  Masterchief was up though.  If there's weather happening he has to be out in it.  Doesn't matter what time of the day or night...he loves the stuff!  You will find me in the bathtub wearing my antique colander on my head, hip boots on, clutching every bed pillow in the house singing "the old gray mare just aint' what she used to be".

Thank you CATHERINE for emailing me to ask if I was alright through the storms.  You are a so sweet to be concerned and think of me!  Sorry I haven't responded yet.  We drove in to town today for a few groceries...that's an all day affair.  We only got very high winds and lots of rain.  No tornadoes or lightening strikes.  You may have heard about the Amish family who lost four of their children crossing a creek in their buggy here in KY.  That was in the far western part of the state.  Such a sad story.  The youngest was only 5 or 6 months old!  So very sad.  Let's keep that family in our prayers!

On the stitchy side of things I finished the A block in Liam's Sampler....

I think I need to mention here for people who might not know that I have affectionately named this current creation of mine "Liam's Sampler" for my grandson who was born November 1st.  This pattern of lettered blocks is taken from a chart made by Rosewood Manor called "ABC Tapestry".  I am also working on completing the entire alphabet using this chart.  I have it on a quilters rack because it's gonna be a BIG ONE BABY!!!!  I haven't worked on it in the past few months though because I want to finish Liam's Sampler before we go to New Jersey for work.  I will be taking it to The Strawberry Sampler to have the girls there frame it.  They do wonderful work!!

Here is the whole piece so far....

I started the border on the M block and had to rip almost all of it out yesterday!  It was a rainy day so the frogs must have come up for air.  I hadn't counted over far enough between the two blocks and didn't realize it until I had all of the single line border done and half of the Algerian eyes around the edge.  I was so TICKED!!  All is well now.  I frogged it all out and then walked away for a while.  That always helps.

Well that's about it for now.  Thank you so much for your visit with me today.

Parsley....I wish we lived closer so I could share that head-sized chocolate bar with you!   I hope you and your hubby feel better soon.
Sharlotte.....I'd REALLY like to give you those 14 pounds you misplaced back to you.  I think I found 10 of them.  Just sayin'.

Catherine.....again you are a sweetheart for being concerned about us here.  I definitely want to meet with you at the shop when I roll in to town during the week of March 21st.  Can we arrange that?

Thank you ALL for leaving comments here.  I love it when I hear that little B~L~I~N~G on my laptop!!

I just received lots of pictures of my little sweetie and since I only posted this blog a bit ago I thought I'd add it as an edit......
There were many to choose from but this one was my favorite because it shows his chubby little profile.  Thanks for humoring me.  Only  six days till I see him!!  **squeals**

A Thank You & an Afternoon Walk.....

Masterchief would like me to THANK YOU for all your birthday wishes.  He appreciates them very much and wants me to tell you it was HIS HONOR to serve our country!!

Oh gosh I just love him to pieces!!

Anywhoo.....the weather was so nice yesterday we took a little walk in the afternoon.  We call it "the loop" because it doesn't matter which direction we begin out of our driveway we will always end up back where we started.  We usually tote the camera along and this results in alot of silly photos.  I have spared you from most of them but there might be one or two that  wouldn't ordinarily show but  I consider each of my followers here at Kentucky Sampler my friends and I would just about show you any picture I have!  Which leads me to wonder....why don't some of you show more pictures of YOURSELF?  I can think of a couple blogs I follow that I have NO IDEA what you look like!  I guess it really doesn't matter.  I just choose to let it "all hang out", I suppose.

This was when I said...."Hey you have to look at the camera you're holding out there"., then he did!  He usually listens to me.  He's a smart man!

The tree-trimming guys were spending alot of time around our power lines during the Winter.  They left alot of cut wood that would serve someone well if they would only come and get it.  I found alot of branches with pine cones on them...oh they smell so good!

One of my favorite birds is a cardinal.  I also like Bluebirds and, well I could name them all!

We ended up just a few houses down from ours here.  We met up with the guy who built all these houses here.     Our good friend and neighbor, Gary.
It was a windy day but he was tending to a pile of burning rubble.  Behind them you can see two foundations of his latest houses.  Gary bought himself a big piece of farm land and decided to build a development on it.  We were fortunate enough to buy the lot next to us and the two behind us so we wouldn't have neighbors right smack up next to us.  The lot next to us is now taken up with our addition.  I will have a much bigger bathroom and a larger bedroom soon.  Masterchief has a separate garage for his beloved 1990 GMC Sierra truck and also a workshop!
Gary and his wife Sandy have been dear friends to us since moving here. We are so thankful to call them friends AND neighbors!

Gary lets a nearby farmer bale the hay from the lots that aren't built on yet.  I couldn't resist..........
Now remember when I said it was a windy day?  That explains the hair, and the pregnant look!
You should have been here to see Masterchief try and get me up on that thing.  It was a comic show all of it's own.  Well what goes up must come down.........
A very flattering picture, wouldn't you say?

Well now let's get to why I created this blog in the first place, shall we?

I'm not sure how much progress these pictures show you from the last time I posted pictures.  I have done a few rows of the blue dress in Ah Tis Spring and I've also been working on my grandson's sampler a bit.  I am working the angel in the A block right now and will soon be stitching the M block.  I can't wait to finish this and take it to be framed.

Well that's about it for today.  If you are still with me I thank you SO VERY MUCH!!  I know long posts with lots of pictures can be a bear to get through when your reader is so full of blogs to catch up on.
I treasure EACH AND EVERY comment you leave....REALLY!!!

I leave you with this little thought......

You shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back!

Have a wonderful week........

Happy Birthday Masterchief!

Today is the day!  Sixty-two years ago today my Masterchief was born in to this world and really....what would I do without him?

See those little wrinkles around his eyes?  Oh I just melt when I see them....every time!

He's the most hadsomest big hunk of man-galute that I know and I'm so very proud of his service to our country.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY LOVE!!  I hope you had a wonderful day....and your hiner isn't still sore from getting your well deserved 62 spankin's this morning!  :o)

Where did my Wednesday go?

Wow this Wednesday seemed to fly by.  What did I do?  I did one load of laundry.  I ran to Danville (one hour away) for a little shopping, came home and made my Masterchief dinner.  He's in bed already.  We NEVER go to bed separately but he was really beat from helping a friend all day.  I will be ready for bed as soon as I'm done here.  I don't have too many brain cells left at this hour so read this blog entry with some understanding, won't you?

I printed out a few tags that Sweet Sue clued me in on.  I printed them on manilla folders that I cut to size for the printer.  I punched the little hole at the top with a heart-shaped hole punch and used my scalloped edge scissors for the bottom of each tag.  Aren't they cute?

Thanks Sweet Sue!

All of the pictures in tonights post were taken just moments ago so that explains the poor lighting.

This is my "spot".  It's where I am most comfortable to do my stitching.  I panic if we should ever get unexpected company because the couch is full of my stitchy stuff.
If you look close you can see how much I've done on Ah Tis Spring....

When I get tired of stitching so much of the blue dress on this bunny babe, I work on something else in the design.  I picked it up tonight but made myself put it right back down because I HAVE TO work on Liam's Sampler!

While I Danville I walked through the Peddler's Mall there and found this cute little frame for only two dollars!

I don't know what this is in it but I only bought it for the frame.  I'm sure something I will stitch in the future will fit in it!

I actually had the windows open for a bit this afternoon.  It was so nice to air out the house.

I am fading fast here.  I don't know how you guys do alot of stitching at night.  I am without a doubt a daytime stitcher at heart.

Thanks for poppin' in!

I am curious to know what caption my bloggy friends would put on this picture.  Please share!

A Nice Surprise

Look what I found on my pillow this morning.....
I had to run and grab the camera quick because it didn't stick around for long.  What a nice Valentine's Day surprise!  We saw it right after exchanging Valentine's Day cards...kisses and hugs....
Masterchief is just TOO GOOD to me!  He knows I can't stand glitter but when he went shopping for a Valentine's Day card for me he said this one was the only one with a message inside that was just right.  So he bought it anyway and tried to brush off as much of the glitter as he could.  Well I just love him to pieces!!

Here's hoping our Valentine's Day is glitter-free......unless that's your "thing".  :o)

Ah Tis Spring...

I've had this chart from Notforgotten Farm for a little while now and boy I need it this year after such a cold Winter!  It calls for all DMC threads and I spent a good part of my afternoon winding them all up on these little cards.  I did make one substitution though.  I think I am going to use DMC 3768 on the blue dress instead of 3848.  Here they are side by side:
I prefer the more "country" color of blue on the right.  The blue on the left is very bright and just doesn't blend well with the other recommended colors.  That is just my opinion though.  Lori also recommends that I tea dye it after stitching it.  I'm not sure if I will do that or not.  I'll decide that when I'm finished I suppose.

Here is my latest progress on Liam's Sampler....

I'm more than half way done now!  I need to get this done before March 12th.  We will be leaving for work by then and I want to have it finished so I can take it to The Strawberry Sampler to have the girls frame it for me.  Then I will gift it to Josh and Laymie for Liam.  I hope they like it.

We took the buggy up to our neighbors/very good friends house yesterday afternoon and she surprised me with this gift...
She certainly knows what I like, huh?  I've never seen a nite-lite in this blue willow style before!  I was so thrilled to have it.  She is a dear friend.
Here is a picture of it from back farther.  Now never-you-mind about the wine.  I am doing my civic duty to drink the one on the left.  It's strawberry-rhubarb wine from Nashoba Winery in Bolton, MA.  We bought a bunch of it a couple years ago and if I don't drink it up it will go bad.  Oh the trials I must endure..........
I also need to come up with something to fill up that big jar Masterchief bought for me.  I had Cheerios in it at one time but I never ate them and they got really old.  The crows wouldn't even eat them!  I want to use it for something that I actually will eat, not just something for decorations sake.  Any ideas?  Nothing fattening please!

Now to confess something I've been struggling with.  As you might know I recently became a member of the COTM club at Sassy's Fabby's  (That's Color Of The Month).  Well anyway...I've seen some of you who receive beautiful linens in the mail and start stitching on them right away.  RIGHT AWAY!!!  **GASP**

Give me a moment here....*clutching chest*

Ok...I'm alright now.

As you might also have noticed I received a pile of the most beautiful linens from my dear bloggy friend, Sandra (Mimi).  I have them all piled up nicely on the chair next to my stitching spot so I can gaze over at them at any time while I stitch.  I've refolded them....laid them out nicely.....folded them once my fingers gently over them.  I just wouldn't dare stitch on any of it right away.  I  need proper time to stare at it and walk past it running my fingers over it as I go.  Now I ask you, is this weird?  Do I need counseling?   I even swiped a piece of linen from another project I had all kitted up for "Ah Tis Spring" so I wouldn't have to get in to my new stash.  I know....I'm SICK!

I'll leave you with a picture of my little love.  I can't wait to see him.  Only three weeks!
He has learned that when he smacks that little critter it plays music.  Look at that concentration!

Thanks for taking a moment to visit with me.  Your comments are always treasured!

Here's MY Sign....

This one was made with me in mind.  Actually mine would probably say something like..."Step away from the cupboard where the crackers and other hip-enlarging goodies are kept" but that would be an awfully big sign!
We went to a Peddler's Mall with friends yesterday morning.  They had LOTS of Ball fruit jars but now that Masterchief has a little book on what they are worth he is more selective on what he buys.  We did get out of there with a few.  I think we need a cupboard to keep all of them now...I'm running out of room!

I saw this cute bowl for $2.....
I have a couple other pieces that are of this pattern.  Next to Blue Willow I really like this.

When we got home from the Peddler's Mall I found a package in my mailbox.  Don't you just love it when that happens?  SANDRA sent me a bundle of linens!  I was so thrilled with the sampling she first sent to me so I hurried a check off to her to send me more...MORE!!!!

Please go visit her blog if you can.  I count her among my dearest of stitchy-bloggy friends.  She isn't "comment enabled" so if you'd like to send a comment to her email address that's fine.  While you're there, wish Papaw a happy birthday!  :o)

Went to a charity dinner last night for a women's shelter.  We went last year and had a nice time so we decided to do it again this year.  They have a nice catered meal and then draw names for different prizes.  We didn't win anything but that's really not the reason why we go.  As of last night they had a FULL HOUSE at the shelter.  Sad, isn't it?

Wish I could post these pictures side by side but oh well.  We took these with our phones soon after we arrived.

Parsley's crazy sock party was fun!  After we got home I looked at most of your crazy sock contributions and there are alot them out there! As you probably noticed I can "wave" with my toes.  Or point...or whatever.  I love me my toe-socks!

Well it's time to make Masterchief's breakfast before he wastes away on me.

Thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT weekend!  The sun is shining here and I'm SO THANKFUL for it!

Crazy Socks Party....

Here is my contribution to Parsley's Crazy Socks Party...........

Now I should tell you these aren't the socks I went out and bought at Wal-Mart the other day.  I found these in the back of my closet just minutes ago.  They are toe socks with rubbery-grippy hearts on the bottom.  I thought they would be fitting for Valentines Day.

Please go visit Parsley at her blog HERE to join the party.  I will check back in tonight after an evening out to visit with ya'll.

Until later....
Don't party to heart-y...wait for MEEeeeeeeeeeeeee................

A Toenail Paintin' Kind of Day.....

I found the warm spot on the kitchen floor today.  It felt so good!  I thought I'd paint my toenails a bright pink today to drive away the doldrums of Winter.  Maybe I could use my newly painted pink toes to swiftly kick old man Winter in the pants till next year!

Laymie sent me a few pictures of Liam today.  Here's my favorite one...although it was so hard to choose.  He's changing so much.  I can't wait to see them.
Like father, like son.............

Josh likes to play his video games and it looks like Liam might be winning!  His little shirt says, "Mommy Needs A Date Night".  I remember when my little fella was "little" like that.  Just look at him now!  It happens way to fast.  I can still squeeze him though cause I'm his Momma and that gives me squeezin' rights!

Parsley over at Seasons of My Mind is having a crazy sock party at her blog tomorrow night.  We are going away to a charity dinner but I might try to post before I leave.  I bought some socks the other day with this in mind.  They aren't really crazy but they are a little different than what I would normally wear.  If you would like to join the party just take a picture of you in your craziest socks and post it to your blog tomorrow (Friday).  Then go over to Parsley's blog and leave a comment to have a "chat".  Wish I was going to be home for it but at least I'll try to post my sock photo.

Short post for tonight friends.  I've just got to get my butt planted on my end of the couch and start stitching on Liam's Sampler.  Thanks for stopping by and for leaving your sweet comments.  I really do appreciate them ALL!!

I'm In A Funk!

Hello friends!  I know I'll receive some sympathy here because I've read a few blog entries over the months since I've started blogging about how we occasionally go through a "funk".  I have been doing a little bit of stitching but I haven't been keeping up on my blog reading and commenting like I should.  Oh I have left a few comments here and there......even posted a couple announcements in my sidebar about giveaways but I just haven't had the gumption to do much else.  I am about fed up with this cold weather here in KY.  I remember last Winter when it would get down in to the 20's for a day or two.  Man that was COLD!  This Winter has had several days of 20 degree weather.  More snow predicted this week!

I need to change the subject quick.................

I finally got the alphabet part of ABCD finished and started stitching the flowers along the bottom.....

Sorry my picture is all weird looking.  This bloggy thing wants to rotate my pictures for some strange reason.  I tried to post this morning but it was acting up then too!

I have put ABCD away for a while and picked up Liam's Sampler again.  I need to get that done so I can have it framed when we go to work in New Jersey in March. I am on the "A" right now.  It will be finished soon!

I received my first monthly piece of linen from Sassy's Fabbys yesterday.

I love it!  I can't wait to see what next month will bring me.  I saw that Ma over at The Teakettle Corner also placed an order with Lauren.  You simply must go see these fabrics for yourself.  They are everything Ma brags them up to be!

It's only 7:30pm and I'm tired already.  I've been running out of steam early recently.

I will try to blog-shop and leave comments for all of you.  I know I truly enjoy receiving an email telling me that one of my dear stitchy friends has left me a comment.  I try to do the same for you.  When I turned my laptop on this morning I noticed I had reached 130 followers.....but tonight I have 129 again!  What's up with that?

Thank you for stopping by my blog today!  I appreciate you very much.

Hopefully soon I'll snap out of this and get Old Man Winter to release his grip on Kentucky!  Think he likes cookies?  I'm not above bribery!

Until next time.....
Take care of yourself....

This isn't funny anymore!

I'm starting to think there is some sort of supernatural phenomena going on here.  You all know I have been having a real hard time with this latest "simple" chart (ABCD by LA D Da). I've stitched and ripped on this piece more than any other.  I just don't know what to blame it on!  Last night I was relieved to have finally finished the alphabet and started the simple border.  I started the border at the left side....the "A" side.  When I got to the letter S realized that from S on to Z the letters were one stitch lower.  Now remember I had just ripped out the first half of the alphabet and re-stitched it.  I am very frustrated at this point and just shaking my head in disbelief.  I ripped out S through Z with the partial border, stabbing the point of my VERY sharp scissors in to my finger (drawing blood).  So I guess you can say I have put blood, sweat (do you count hot flashes?) and tears in to this piece, literally!  Well OK the tears were suppressed but they were there!  As of this moment I have the letter Z to stitch and then I can work on the border or the flowers at the bottom.  What I really want to work on is Liam's Sampler but I am so bullheaded about this piece that I can't put it down until it is conquered.  I am sending this chart on to Jennifer at Serial Starter and I hope the attached curse doesn't effect her!

Went to do a bit of grocery shopping today.  Didn't really need much but the first Wednesday of the month at Kroger is senior discount day.  I get to take advantage of that because my Masterchief is considered a "senior" according to their rules.  I always joke about him being an old fart but in this case it saves me 10% off my entire order!

Will keep you posted about my ABCD progress.  Sorry no pictures but at this point I am just tired of talking about it and I'm worried that whatever curse is placed upon this thing will hurt my camera!

I received that issue of JCS that I whined about not being able to find from Jan (Belfonte Notes) today.  Thank you so much Jan!  Jan was just one of the very kind friends who offered to send me a copy and I'm so grateful to be blessed with each of you!

Until next time......I hope to show you a picture of a completed ABCD!

Thank you for your encouraging comments.  They really help me persevere!

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

It's the glasses.  That's it!  The NEW GLASSES!!  That is why I've been making so many mistakes on ABCD.

No pics tonight but I just wanted to thank you all for your sympathy and encouragement about my recent visit from the frogs.  Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am a strong willed, ornery, stubborn, bullheaded ... well I don't need to go on but I WILL NOT be defeated by this "simple" chart!  I picked it up right away this morning after making Masterchief his breakfast.  I stitched two...frogged one....stitched five.....frogged three.  I ended up ripping out at least three letters that I had just stitched!

*Please refer to above description of myself*

I set my jaw and started again with a fresh strand of newly conditioned silk.  Things went well after I figured out that I had stitched TWO I's in the alphabet (along with several other counting mistakes).  I took my pain in the behind chart and accessories to the Nissan dealer to work on while I had the oil changed in the Murano.  Wouldn't you know it they worked at record speed today and I only got one letter stitched there.  I only have half of the letter A to do and then I can start on the border or the flowery portion on the bottom.  I will take a picture of it soon to post.

Laymie posted the most adorable picture on FB today.  I am so blessed to have her as my daughter-in-law and the mother of my grandson.  I told her I would share it with all of you here.....
Little Liam is three months old...TODAY!  Isn't he just precious?  Oh I know I might be a little biased here but come on....look at that face!  I could just squeeze the stuffin' right outta him!!

I'm going to work on the dreaded piece now.  Hopefully it will be a good frog-free night!

Let's drink a sip of wine to better stitching evenings ahead!
*clink* (that's a toast) as if you needed me to tell you...........
